What was the role of religion in the celebrations the Aztecs had?
Considering religion played a big part in the Aztecs lives almost every ceremony they held evolved around religion. The role of religion is visible in the rain festival for example. The Aztec gods/goddesses played a big part in the Aztecs religion and in all three festivals the gods are present. The first of the three is to encourage rain fall.
The priest will perform many rituals to the god, in hope for rain fall. The rain festival, like many other festivals, were held at temples. Because each god was assigned a separate temple all ceremonies worshipping a particular god would be held at their temple. For example Tlaloc,

the second rain festival the Aztecs held was and offering to Tlaloc there for it would have been held at his temple. The Aztec people are worshipping and connecting with their god at the temple and because their gods are their religion the role of religion is always there at the festivals.
