The Aztecs
The Aztecs, a group of American Indian people who spoke the now ancient language of Uto-Aztecan, today of which the modern language of Nahuatl has descended. For about 200 years the Aztecs wandered around Mexico before they settled in the valley of Mexico. They quickly adapted to their environment and a successful city started to grow. Once they had settled the began to take over their neighbouring tribes, soon the valley of Mexico was entirely under their control. The Aztecs ruled Mexico up until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century.
